Frequently Asked Questions

How does hypnosis work?

Hypnosis works by empowering you to change and reframe subconscious beliefs and patterns. When in a hypnotic state, your conscious brain is in a relaxed yet focused state of awareness that more readily allows the subconscious brain to be available for suggestions that will help disconnect old behavior controls and critical thoughts. This is why changing habits by willpower alone is so difficult – we often already believe we can not change, so thinking about making the change happen is ineffective

Can anyone be hypnotized?

Yes. Actually, you’ve already been hypnotized the many times you watched an engrossing movie or read a good book. Hypnosis is a normal and natural state of mind that everyone has already experienced. It is important that you want to be in a hypnotic state and are open to the experience. All you need is to be willing and able to follow gentle instructions for reaching a state of focused awareness

What does it feel like to be hypnotized?

Hypnosis is a heightened state of focus and concentration. Though the experience can be different for each individual, hypnosis typically feels as if you are in a very relaxed or trance state, almost as if you were in the state just before falling asleep. You are 100% aware and conscious and you can NOT be made to do anything you would not normally do. Your morals, values, and ethics are strongly in place throughout the process

What is a typical session like?

Each session lasts about 60–75 minutes and takes place over Zoom. In our first meeting, we’ll discuss your goals and what you'd like to shift or heal. From there, each session is thoughtfully personalized to support your progress.

The hypnosis portion typically lasts 20–30 minutes and feels like a deeply relaxed, peaceful state—similar to daydreaming or just before falling asleep. You're awake, aware, and in control, yet your mind becomes more open and receptive to positive change. Many clients leave feeling lighter, calmer, and more grounded.

Will I lose control during hypnosis?

Not at all. You remain fully in control, awake, and aware throughout the entire session. Most clients are surprised to discover how relaxed yet mentally present they feel. You can think clearly, respond if needed, and often remember much of what was said during the session.

Hypnosis is something we do together—not something that’s done to you. It’s a collaborative process designed to support your healing and growth.

Will I receive a recording of my session?

Yes—when appropriate, I’ll provide you with a short, personalized recording to listen to between sessions. Listening at bedtime or first thing in the morning (when your subconscious is most open) helps reinforce the work we do together

What if I fall asleep during hypnosis?

It’s okay! If your body needs rest, that’s part of the healing. Even if you drift off, your subconscious mind can still absorb the suggestions. I’ll guide you gently throughout to help you stay relaxed but aware.

Can hypnosis help with major life transitions?

Absolutely. Whether you're navigating grief, career changes, caregiving, relationship shifts, or personal growth, hypnosis can help you process emotions, release overwhelm, and reconnect with your inner clarity and strength.

Do virtual hypnosis sessions work?

Yes! Hypnosis works beautifully over Zoom. All you need is a quiet space and a good internet connection. Many clients even prefer the comfort of doing sessions from their own home.

Can I get “stuck” in hypnosis

It’s impossible to get stuck. If a session ended unexpectedly, you would simply emerge naturally—just like waking from a nap

When is hypnosis not recommended?

Patients suffering from schizophrenia, bipolar conditions, suicidal tendencies, senility, alcohol or drug psychosis, pathological personalities or manic depression are generally advised not to undergo hypnosis. While hypnosis is useful in alleviating mild cases of depression, it is contra-indicated for manic depression and bipolar conditions. It is also contraindicated in some cases of epilepsy. Because we are concerned about your health and well being, please let us know if any of the following applies to you before you come for hypnotherapy treatments: Epilepsy, Dissociative Disorders (MPD), Recent Heart Surgery.
